Biography
In 2020 Jane became the South Lakes; Cumbria (North West England) accredited Horse Agility Trainer for the 'The International Horse Agility Club'. Liberty work is a skill that Jane has developed a passion for, both on the ground and in the saddle, using very gentle and encouraging techniques.
Jane's passion for horses started as a very young child from growing up on a remote farm in the Lake District countryside, where she would spend many a long day exploring the fells alone on her pony. Her father often brought home challenging horses, which developed Jane's understanding of horse behaviours and how they were often the result of their treatment from humans, which in turn inspired her to work with them from this young age.
As a young adult, Jane expanded her knowledge by working in a Trekking Centre and followed this up with 6 years in a Racing Yard where she was responsible for backing youngsters, foaling duty and supporting rehabilitation works. In 2005, Jane joined the exciting world of Trec and competed with an American Saddlebred Stallion, Even Worse. Jane won the English Level 3 Pairs Championship as well as the 'Albro Lucky Jim' Trophy for having the highest PTV (obstacle) score across all levels in 2011 at the British Championships.
Jane spent some time in Montana working on a Cattle Ranch where she discovered a love for Western riding, which is still a big part of her daily life now. After travelling to Texas to watch Buck Brannanman at the 'Legacy of Legends', in 2017 Jane was selected as one of the lucky riders to participate in a very rare training clinic in Aintree with her homebred and newly backed American Saddlebred X 'Even Glory'. Eager to explore many of other the diverse disciplines of the equine world, Jane has competed in Western Showing Classes, Barrel Racing, Cow Cutting and Endurance riding all over the country. Some of Janes awards include:
2010 American Saddlebred Awards In-Hand Champion
2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 Ridden Saddlebred Champion
2014 European Saddlebred Championships
2015 Ridden Hunter Champion
2019 & 2020 Bowland Trec League Champion & In-hand Trec

Jane and her husband have rescued a number of horses who live with them, and who have become a big part of their family alongside their rescue Dalmatian, Ruby and chickens. One year, Jane brought home an unwanted Mule, as its birth has not been planned by its owners. It quickly revealed its incredible potential by jumping at height out of the stable which was an impressive achievement! After two years of training, Honey, the 13.2hh wonder mule was bought by her loving owner Sarah who now participates with her in Trec, sponsored rides and cross country training!
Jane now runs two successful Equine businesses in Pennington, Cumbria. 'South Lakes Horsemanship' enables Jane to teach 1-1 lessons in Liberty, English or Western riding and driving, as well as training horses and their owners to overcome any difficulties that they might be struggling with, including backing, loading, barging, young horse development, etc. The other business, 'Unicorns at South Lakes Horsemanship' specialises in Equine Therapy and supports children and young people with a variety of emotional and behavioural difficulties to find a place of calm, where they can develop at their own pace in a safe and controlled environment. Jane's client base ranges from riders as young as three years old to as young at heart as 80 years old.
As well as the businesses, Jane actively organises and participates in equine events, such as Fun Rides over the local fells, forests and beaches, children's seasonal equine activity days and Trec Training workshops. In her spare time, she participates in the annual 'Your Horse Hack 1,000 miles' challenge with her horses 'Even Glory', 'Light-Hearted Whizz' & 'Perryfields Liberty Bell'.
A variety of Liberty packages are being created to suit the rider very new to the world of Liberty, through to Advanced.
